BIRDCAGE is a fast-paced, vertical scrolling shoot ‘em up that captures the explosive intensity of 90s arcade classics while integrating modern gameplay and storytelling elements. Players pilot the experimental RADON gunship HALCYON, equipped with a wide shot, focus shot, and its signature weapon, The SWORD, which serves both offensive and defensive roles. Set in a divergent human future, the game features an engaging sci-fi narrative inspired by titles like Metal Gear Solid, exploring themes of futuristic science and technology, political and military power struggles, and the complexities of the human unconscious mind. Story Mode spans six challenging stages filled with mid-bosses, stage bosses, and narrative interludes, while Arcade Mode offers a streamlined experience focused on fast-paced scoring without story interruptions. Score Attack mode challenges players to survive and rack up points against endless enemy waves within a time limit, perfect for honing skills and competing for high scores. Drawing inspiration from 90s video games and anime, BIRDCAGE employs techniques such as sprite scaling, pre-rendered backgrounds, and limited textures to recreate the aesthetic of early 3D titles. The dynamic soundtrack combines the authentic sounds of 90s music hardware with modern synthesis and samples, delivering over an hour of original music, hundreds of bespoke sound effects, and retro-styled voice acting for stage bosses. The story unfolds in a fractured future where humanity has expanded into space, divided between two factions: SELENE, controlling the Moon and remnants of Earth, and RADON, ruling the space colony CAGE. Under the leadership of Mother ROENTGEN, RADON’s Daughters command GENOME Control to develop a new weapon to overthrow Earth’s dominance and birth a new universe—the WORLD-EGG. Deep within the CAGE, a pilot awakens in the HALCYON’s cockpit, haunted by a mysterious Voice commanding the destruction of the WORLD-EGG.

Once the game is finished downloading, right click the .zip file and click on “Extract to BIRDCAGE v1.0.8.zip” (To do this you will need 7-Zip, which you can get here, or you can use the built in windows extractor).
Double click inside the BIRDCAGE v1.0.8 folder and run the setup application. Accept the EULA, and install the game. Then, launch the game through the desktop shortcut.
