About SpaceSim - Astrophysical Simulation Software
SpaceSim is a particle-based astrophysical simulation and rendering software designed to bring complex scientific models within reach of enthusiasts and researchers alike. Unlike real-time games, SpaceSim operates as a non-realtime simulator—while low-resolution scenarios run quickly, simulations involving millions of particles may require hours to complete. The software does not include any gameplay elements such as progression or sandbox modes, focusing instead on educational and exploratory purposes. By employing simplified versions of the sophisticated methods used in supercomputer research, SpaceSim runs efficiently on desktop PCs and laptops, featuring an intuitive interface that requires no advanced knowledge of physics, mathematics, or programming. Users can recreate renowned simulations from scientific literature, including the Moon-forming impact, Saturn’s ring formation, and the DART kinetic impactor, or experiment with hypothetical conditions like collisions involving matter and anti-matter planets. The simulation engine models fluid dynamics and gravitation through particles that interact via collisions governed by the Navier-Stokes equations and mutual gravitational attraction. Objects can be deformable or rigid, with multiple celestial types such as planets, stars, asteroids, disks, clouds, and galaxies customizable in geometry, materials, and behavior.
