About Keep the Heroes Out

Keep the Heroes Out! is an asymmetric, cooperative dungeon defense game for 1-4 players where you take on the roles of monsters defending their hard-earned treasures against invading hordes of heroes intent on stealing them. Each player selects a unique monster character, each with special abilities, a distinct number of creatures, and a personalized starting deck of cards. On your turn, you use cards one at a time to perform actions, with flexibility in the order and distribution of these actions among your monsters. As you progress, you can craft loot cards and upgrade your deck, enhancing your strategic options. The game supports both local and online co-op play, allowing players to collaborate in defending the dungeon and solving the evolving puzzle of combining different monster roles, from crowd control to defense and support. The dungeon layouts vary by level, each introducing special rules and cards to keep gameplay fresh and engaging. After every player’s turn, waves of heroes invade and attack the monsters, and while monsters may fall in battle, they can always be revived—elimination is never permanent. However, stolen treasure is lost forever, raising the stakes of your defense. If the vault’s hoard is completely depleted, the game ends in defeat, but if players successfully protect their treasures long enough, they achieve victory together. Scenarios range from introductory missions, like helping Olga the witch gather frogs for potions, to more unconventional challenges such as a battle of the bands. Keep the Heroes Out! delivers a dynamic blend of strategy, cooperation, and thematic depth that keeps every session exciting.
