Esoteric Ebb is an isometric, Disco-like TTRPG-turned-CRPG set in a bizarre post-Arcanepunk fantasy world where you play as The Cleric, an expert in esoteric events and a glorified government enforcer. Drawing inspiration from classic CRPGs, the game offers deep, branching dialogues with an overwhelming number of choices, letting you create the world’s worst cleric and tackle the city’s mysteries through tense dice rolls and stat-driven challenges. Five days before the first-ever election, a tea shop explodes in the city center, sending you on a dangerous investigation that begins with waking up in a morgue surrounded by corpses, rotting apples, and a zombie. With no official support, you must navigate the streets and tunnels of Norvik, juggling factions, debating fantastical creatures, and uncovering secrets in a world where mythological beings sell newspapers and ideologies clash with the ramblings of dead gods. Your choices influence the upcoming election and the fate of the city, making every decision impactful and unpredictable. The gameplay emphasizes trusting the dice, with every action—from wrestling dwarves and stealing items to navigating social encounters—resolved through rolls that can lead to success or entertaining failure. The Cleric’s conflicting internal voices, represented by opposing Ability Stats, interrupt conversations and shape your quest outcomes in unique and often ridiculous ways. Reality-shaping magic allows you to control minds, detect secrets, and converse with the living or dead for both profit and amusement. Combat is turn-based and used as a last resort, with dice rolls determining life or death in tense encounters, while bizarre, creative solutions remain an option. The questing tree combines your quest log, skill tree, and mind map, allowing each decision to take root and alter your playstyle through game-changing feats. Esoteric Ebb challenges you to become the city’s savior, its downfall, or an unexpected power player in a richly detailed, unpredictable fantasy metropolis.
