In a world where two continents float above a vast swamp, long-separated civilizations finally establish contact, sparking a devastating war between the Fou Empire in the west and an alliance of eastern nations. However, peace is shattered when Princess Elena, traveling through eastern lands to visit war veterans and explore battlegrounds, mysteriously disappears near the front lines. Refusing to wait any longer, Princess Nina, Elena’s sister and a skilled healer from the Fae tribe, sets out alone to find her missing sibling. Along her journey, she encounters a diverse group of allies including Ryu, a mysterious warrior with the power to transform into dragons; Scias, a quiet mercenary; Cray, the responsible leader of the Woren tribe; Ershin, a cursed warrior in sealed armor; and Ursula, a military-raised leader of the Fou Empire skilled in both magic and weapons. Breath of Fire IV combines classic RPG storytelling with enhanced technical features, offering an immersive pixel art world rendered in dynamic 3D. Players will engage in strategic battles utilizing unique skills, powerful magic, and transformative dragon abilities to overcome a variety of enemies. This re-released version includes improved DirectX rendering options such as windowed mode, vertical synchronization, gamma correction, and anti-aliasing, as well as an upgraded audio engine that restores missing environmental sounds. Keyboard and mouse support have been refined, and minigames like Warehouse and Crane have been enhanced for smoother gameplay. The game’s battle and combo systems are now more stable, with all crashes and scripting issues resolved, providing a polished and enjoyable experience.
