About A Summer's End - Hong Kong 1986
Set against the vibrant backdrop of 1986 Hong Kong, this visual novel explores the tender and complex relationship between two women as they navigate their feelings amid societal expectations. Players dive into the lives of Michelle, a more reserved office worker, and the free-spirited Sam, whose chance encounter blossoms into a meaningful romance. The gameplay revolves around reading dialogue and making choices that shape their connection, leading to different endings while focusing on rich character interactions.
What makes this experience stand out are its stunning hand-drawn illustrations that breathe life into the city and its characters, alongside a captivating synth-based soundtrack that complements the mood. The narrative deftly addresses themes of queer love, family duty, and cultural identity without becoming overly dramatic, making it a reflective journey rather than a typical dating sim. If you appreciate character-driven stories with emotional depth and a nostalgic aesthetic, this game is definitely for you.
