About RUBATO

RUBATO offers an experimental, 2D physics-based twist on the collect-a-thon genre set in the distant future year of 12,012. Following the rise of the multiquadrillionaire monopoly “GSSAI CO.” and the devastation caused by a world-ending bioweapon, the solar system has mysteriously been shattered by unknown celestial forces. Amidst the chaos, a weapons development program spearheaded by Earth’s subsidiary of GSSAI CO. accelerates while the population mysteriously vanishes—until one man’s mishap during a game of pool sets events in motion. As the self-proclaimed Hero of the Stars and the Sky, players use an unusual mechanic: their tongue, to lick enemies and objects while navigating open, metroidvania-inspired environments. Collecting “Planet Bits” becomes essential to repairing the fractured solar system and uncovering the truth behind the catastrophe. Exploring five compact yet intricately designed areas, players traverse diverse settings ranging from a massive bakery to the world’s most poorly planned city, each packed with secrets and shortcuts. The game’s narrative weaves a strange and humorous tale with sharp character writing that shifts from silly to deeply serious, offering a unique and sometimes unsettling experience. RUBATO challenges players to not only save the universe but also to embark on a personal journey of self-discovery. With its distinctive gameplay and offbeat storytelling, RUBATO is an intriguing adventure that requires both skill and heart.
