About The Killing Stone
From the makers of The Blackout Club and The Magic Circle comes The Killing Stone, a card battler set in the 17th century Arctic Circle that combines beautiful stylized art, animated figurines, dazzling effects, and a haunting soundscape with an original first-person narrative. At the heart of the game is the Fanghella, the titular Killing Stone, a ceremonial game board alive with magical creature figurines, spells, and incantations that provide a deep tactical experience. Players engage with a novel Reserve System, allowing units and buffs to be stacked above the battle line for strategic deployment, while creature placement, spellcasting, and bargaining to add powerful banes and boons to decks influence the outcome of every match. The game’s tactile and responsive design encourages thoughtful play in a richly atmospheric setting. Between battles, players step into the role of a Maven, master of the dark arts and last friend of the late Mariken Svangård, exploring her mansion to unravel the mystery of her final days. Presented in a painterly stylized format, the story unfolds through branching dialogues and dual-language narration options—17th century English or modern prose—enhancing the eerie tone. Players interact with family members and animal familiars to uncover the origins of a hereditary curse and negotiate Ritual Contracts against the Devil’s minions. These wagers impact the fate of each Svangård family member, offering powerful boons or devastating banes that permanently affect their souls. With multiple endings, dark miracles, and evolving challenges, The Killing Stone invites players to purge the family curse while striving to save their own soul before the final reckoning arrives.
