Battles of the Ancient World is a tactical simulation that recreates some of the most significant battles spanning from 1457 B.C. to 378 A.D. Players can engage in historically inspired scenarios, commanding forces on either side of these epic conflicts. Each unit represents a real military formation, ranging in size from 250 to 1,200 men, and is placed on maps that accurately depict the terrain of the original battles. The game balances historical accuracy with playability, featuring over 55 distinct units including elite Roman Legionaries and Persian Scythed Chariots, each equipped with unique abilities that players must leverage to secure victory. The diverse roster and authentic battlefield settings provide a rich strategic experience that challenges players to master the nuances of ancient warfare. The extensive mission list includes famous engagements such as Arbela, Cannae, Marathon, and Adrianople, offering a variety of tactical environments and challenges.
