Set in Shiromitsugawa, a typical college town struggling to reinvent itself through failed tourism campaigns and a poorly received anime based on local folklore, 9-nine-: Episode 1 thrusts players into a supernatural mystery unfolding amid an impending storm. The story follows Kakeru Niimi, a man known for his curt demeanor but strong sense of responsibility and kindness, whose ordinary life is upended when the sacred relic of the local shrine shatters. This event triggers the awakening of superhuman abilities in several young residents, transforming the once mundane town into a battleground where Kakeru and the heroine Miyako Kujo must work together to track down a superpowered serial killer before more lives are lost. Episode 1 is the first installment in the 9-nine- series, each entry featuring a different heroine but sharing the same richly developed setting and supernatural themes. The game combines a gripping murder mystery with elements of growing trust and romance between the protagonist and heroine, offering an engaging narrative experience that can be enjoyed independently of other episodes. Beautifully illustrated by Izumi Tsubasu, known for SakuSaku: Love Blooms with the Cherry Blossoms, the game features a compelling script by scenario writer Kazuki Fumi, full Japanese voice acting including the main character, and multiple endings.
